We stayed in Tezpur at Hotel K R C Palace on arriving on 26th Dec 2016 night at 10 PM.

The KRC Palace Hotel at Tezpur was very good and for the first time after a very long trip from Chennai we really relaxed and unwinded. The breakfast was great. It had Idli & Dosa apart from Poori Bhaji etc.

The family was having fun at the breakfast table, pulling each other's leg.

On 27th December 2016 morning, we started off from Tezpur for the drive to Tawang via Dirang. We had to halt at Dirang. 

Roads were extremely terrible in Arunachal Pradesh and filled with pot holes and travelling was very difficult.

People with spondylitis, back pain will surely be in pain. We were to climb up the hills.

We also happened to meet a Assamese Family of a husband & wife & their little son. They had come from Guwahati and had stayed in the same hotel. 

We saw Gautham & Family at the time of checking out and they were curious to see our TN Number plate Car and asked us where we are from and where we are headed to?

We told them we are headed to Dirang and further on to Tawang. They were very happy and said then we should go together as they too were headed in that direction to visit Tawang. I said fine more the merrier.

Assam is such a beautiful state, lush green forest every where, variety of trees and bamboo grows there. Assam really enchanted us a lot.

Mr.Gautham stopped us at a certain place and showed us a variety of bamboo and told us that there are over 27 variety of bamboo growing in Assam. 

We were really surprised as all bamboo looked the same ha ha. 

As per wikipedia information there are 91 genera and over 1000 species.  

Another interesting information to know about Bamboo is that it is the fastest-growing woody plant in the world.

Tawang was 318 KMs and Bomdila was 137 KMs away. Time was 10 AM 

We just reached Bhalukpong.

We just have reached the Border of Arunachal Pradesh. 

We have to stop here and meet the Arunachal Pradesh Police at this check post and show them our ILP (Inner Line Permit). They had a look at all 4 ILPs and had a look at our Car's papers. Since our car wasn't a taxi and self owned and self driven there wasn't much formalities.

However a couple of guys were wondering and saying "Yeah TN kha Han Ka Hai Bhai? Other said shayad Kerala Ka". And they both agreed. That was hilarious.

We are 97 KMs away from Bomdila.

We just stopped at this Nature's beautiful creation and enjoyed the water falls and scenery. 

Both the ladies posing for a photo with their kids and the excitement that we are going to Dirang and then on to Sela Pass and finally to Tawang which is every motorists dream.

When we look at some of the people the way they live, we should thank the Lord for giving us a much better life and comfort and stop complaining.

There isn't much job opportunities in these parts of North East. Living conditions are very tough. Not much income comes to them. You can see some of the tin roof homes and how they live and bear the extreme climatic conditions.

They are self sufficient, they grow their own oranges, apples, fruits and vegetables. They do a lot of farming especially step farming which my 2 kids were eager to see as they had read about it in their school text books.

We came across this beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and we stopped and paid a visit. Gautham and family were behind us as he had received a phone call and asked me to pass. I came till the temple and waited and he came by and passed us without stopping at the temple and this was the point where we got separated from them.

After this temple visit, I too got a lot of phone calls and it took away most of my time. There are times when you have the mobile phone because it rings the caller knows I am reachable and if the caller gets a message that says I am out of coverage areas then the fault is not mine.

I know whoever was calling wanted to reach me so I had to stop and talk and this delayed me a lot in reaching Dirang.

Beautiful temple and beautiful view. 

The beauty of Extreme Cold and Extreme heat around us is, when it is extremely hot we cannot keep ourselves cool by protecting ourselves with anything except seek an air conditioned area, but with extreme cold we can wear protective winter wear thermal dress, sweater, jacket, hand glows etc and at least keep ourselves warm. This is why I always prefer to drive in December of the year when it is extremely cold and not during summer vacations.

Jyotirlinga refers to radiance sign of lord Shiva. There are twelve holy jyotirlinga shrines in india.

This stotra is recite or chanting to worship of those 12 jyotirlinga of lord shiva. The Dwadash Jyotirlingam Stotra is as follows –

Meaning – 

(1) Somanath in Saurashtra and Mallikarjunam in Shri-Shailam; Mahakaal in Ujjain, Omkareshwar in Amleshwar.

(2) Vaidyanath in Paralya and Bhimashankaram in Dakinya; Ramesham (Rameshwaram) in Sethubandh, Nagesham (Nageshwar) in Darauka-Vana.

(3) Vishvanath in Vanarasi, Triambakam at bank of the river Gautami; Kedarnath in Himalayas and Gushmeshwar in Shivalaya (Shiwar).

(4) One who recites these Jyotirlingas every evening and morning, gets relieved of all sins committed in past seven lives.

One, who visits these, gets all his wishes fulfilled by Shiva grace and one's karma gets eliminated as Maheshwara (Shiva) gets satisfied to the worship.

We are 42 KMs away from Dirang & 180 KMs away from Tawang. The time was 4 PM.

We have reached Dirang and the time was 6 PM.

One thing we need to keep in mind is that it becomes darker in North East after 5.30 PM. So out here it was looking to us as if it was some 9 PM.

We tried couple of hotels around and finally found this one and checked in into this hotel. The climate was extremely chill and we met up with couple of people who were from South India who had just come down from Tawang.

They cautioned us that it had snowed heavily previous day and in Tawang it was further cold. We had to climb up over 13700 feet above mean sea level MSL to reach Sela Pass and then from Sela Pass cover additional 70 KMs to reach Tawang.

They also cautioned us that the oxygen content was very less at the high altitude and one of them suffered. They politely hinted us to reconsider about visiting Tawang but advised we can go up to Sela Pass the next day and if we feel comfortable then give Tawang a shot.

We thanked them. 

Starting Odometer Reading at Tezpur on 27th December 2016 at 8.30 AM was 62688 KM.

Closing Odometer Reading at Dirang on 27th December 2016 night at 9.45 PM was 62872 KM.

Total distance traveled from the hotel from Tezpur to the hotel in Dirang was 184 KMs.
